Creating a More Sustainable Future

We believe that waste is a design flaw, and we’re committed to fixing it through thoughtful and innovative design. We ensure that our products are ethically made, supporting fair labor and craftsmanship at every stage. By minimizing our environmental footprint and prioritizing social responsibility, we create fashion that respects both people and the planet.

upcycling magic

In our circular creation process, we prioritize sustainability and waste reduction. The planet can no longer support the resource-heavy demands of modern consumption.

By blending creativity with eco-consciousness, we craft pieces that are functional, durable and contribute to reducing our community’s environmental impact.

Materials

Each element of an R-Coat product is chosen for its low environmental impact:

  • Outside: fabric from broken umbrellas
  • Lining: deadstock fabric from textile factory
  • Buttons: metal (30% recycled)
  • Stoppers: metal (30% recycled)
  • Logo Label: recycled polyester
  • Composition Label: printed directly on the lining

Manufacturing

Our production is small-scale and focused on craftsmanship. Fabric from broken umbrellas is collected at designated points and carefully prepared. We source deadstock fabrics for linings at a textile factory to minimize waste, while the final assembly is handled by a talented team of seamstresses at a small atelier in Portugal. This process ensures both quality and sustainability throughout every stage of production.

Consumer Use

We print composition labels directly on the lining to ensure customers always have the information they need to care for their products, avoiding the common issue of labels being cut off and lost. Our Product Care page provides clear guidelines to help R-Coat pieces last longer, ensuring they stay beautiful and functional over time.

Microplastics

As we upcycle synthetic materials, we recognize the issue of microplastics. To help mitigate this, we recommend using the Guppyfriend washing bag to capture microplastics during washing. We even offer these bags on our website for use with any synthetic garments, including R-Coat pieces.

End of Life

We take responsibility for our products throughout their entire lifecycle. While our pieces are built to last, we offer a Take-Back and Recovery Program—though so far, no one has had to use it! If your R-Coat item eventually reaches the end of its journey, we’ll upcycle the materials and reintegrate them into our production process, helping to close the loop and preserve valuable resources
