We have many collection points across Portugal and Italy where our Umbrellas Heroes can drop off broken umbrellas.
It depends on the product. For our R-Coat jacket, we typically need 5 broken umbrellas. Accessories require smaller pieces, often made from leftover materials from other items we create.
We strive to minimize waste as much as possible. We always seek ways to use all parts of the materials we collect. For instance, we started with the fabric, and now we’re even prototyping jewelry using the metal components! While there may be a small amount of waste left at the end of the production process, it’s very little compared to what we began with. Our commitment is to repurpose as much as possible!
Our pieces are handmade by a dedicated team of seamstresses working in a small atelier just outside Lisbon. They work in safe conditions and are fairly compensated for their labor.
Everything takes place between Italy and Portugal, from the collection of broken umbrellas to the design and production of our products.

It varies depending on the umbrellas used. Some are impermeable, while most are water-resistant, meaning they can resist the penetration of water to some degree.
Each product is unique, reflecting the materials used in its creation!
Currently, we are prototyping jewelry pieces from the metal parts of the umbrellas! The initial results look fantastic, and we’re excited to see where this creative journey takes us.

You can find all the shipping information here. Our packaging consists of either reused or recycled materials, and it’s recyclable and compostable. We use natural and handmade ink for our printing.
We do not accept returns or issue refunds. However, if you experience any issues with your R-Coat product, please email us at hello@r-coat.com, and we will address your concerns on a case-by-case basis.
