R-Coat

We aim to be as sustainable as we possibly can.

At R-Coat we believe all resources are valuable and we are committed to show that fashion brands can and should be active agents in environmental and social well-being, while contributing to local economies.

FABRICS

We use the canopy of broken umbrellas – saved through one of our 30+ collection points – and deadstock fabric rescued in Portuguese textile factories. The material, color and texture of our products varies according to what we have available at the moment.

MATERIALS

Our goal is to make pieces that don’t contribute to the extraction of new natural resources. Along with our upcycled fabrics, our labels are in recycled polyester, buttons are in partly recycled metal and composition labels are printed directly on the products.

ECO-DESIGN

Our pieces are made to keep waste out of landfills, incineration or nature. We develop each item with particular care and attention, selecting umbrellas one by one to achieve the desired product’s quality, texture, color and resistance.

SUPPLY CHAIN

We try our best to work exclusively with ethical, transparent and sustainable suppliers and, whenever possible, we prioritise the collaboration with small, women-owned and local businesses.

MANUFACTURING

Each garment is handcrafted locally by our team of seamstresses, who work safely in a small atelier outside of Lisbon. Quality control is done before and after, to make sure we deliver high-quality pieces.

SLOW FASHION

At R-Coat we value and care about each piece we create. Mass production is not an option; we believe in craftsmanship and in the quality and sustainability of a handmade product and small scale production.

FAIR PAY

We guarantee good working conditions and fair compensation for the labour of our garment workers and collaborators.

VEGAN AND CRUELTY-FREE

R-Coat pieces don’t include materials derived from animals: not for fabrics, nor for smaller parts like buttons and labels.
